Bisset is one of those little treasures that you stumble upon by accident and kick yourself for not discovering it earlier. It is tucked away down an alleyway – first alleyway on the right (if you’re coming up from The Lumiares) after the São Pedro de Alcãntara viewpoint. Most people find it because they are drawn in by the view; a fantastic higgledy piggledy snapshot of the rooftops of Lisbon framed at the end of the passage. (And, by the way, that happens a lot here – the wonderful, serendipitous, finding of treasure because you take a detour to admire the view). So, having drunk in the magnificent Lisbon tapestry, you turn to retrace your steps and – there it is! – Bisset.
The owner, Carmo Sottomayor, has a fantastic eye for charming and timeless clothes and accessories for woman; that perfect summer dress or a pretty clutch or one of a kind scarf.
This may not be Portuguese fashion per se – although of course there are Portuguese pieces here – instead this is about Carmo’s favourite things from around the world. From Holland the deliciously named ‘Love Stories’ featuring lingerie and swimwear; from Italy the gorgeous hand made bags by Maria La Rosa; from France the simple but sweet Mila Marin jewellery, the funky Lab Dip jeans, and Soeur with their fabulous lightweight jumpsuits that are so effortlessly cool. And so on…
Lots and lots of little treasures – so many that you may find yourself nudging your partner out of the door;- ‘go – have a drink, I need a little longer…!’
Oh, and one more thing. If you’re really lucky you might get to meet the delightful Sr. Fellini. He’s camera-shy but agreed to pose for one shot. See if you can spot him!
